My Story

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2018; however, I was no stranger to cancer.  My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2001 followed by leukemia in early 2002.  Since her battle, our family has been very involved in supporting survivors and cancer awareness locally.  One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. But cancer does not discriminate; my family has a close male friend who is also a recent breast cancer survivor.  Yes, men can also have breast cancer. Because of my family history, my risk was higher and I began screenings at the age of 30.  In the back of my mind, I always thought I was educated and prepared.  I had supported others fighting cancer, offering advice and direction based on the experience with my Mother.  However, when I was told my biopsy results confirmed I had breast cancer, I immediately realized that finding out you have cancer is something you are never prepared for.  I quickly recognized the only way I would survive was through my faith in God.  He provided me with the foundation I needed to survive cancer; my faith, His strength, and the love of my family and friends.  I am very blessed and grateful for my amazing support system, who have helped me in so many ways.

This will be my second year participating in the Komen MORE THAN PINK™ Walk and it is my honor to be participating as part of the Global Payments team.  I have formed many bonds with other survivors over the past 7 months and we depend on the research, education, and programs that organizations like Susan G. Komen fund to help us in this fight. I wanted to take action and be More Than Pink®. I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer and need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.

Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Walk stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That's our promise. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
